From epic safaris by horseback in Kenya to trekking the tea trails of Sri Lanka, here’s some fresh new travel inspo
Of course, you’ll have already read our list of the best things to do in the world this year – and now you can add a few more adventures to your wishlist, as the travel gurus at National Geographic have just released a list of 20 exciting new travel experience to try in 2024.
Ranking top of their list is a horseback safari in Kenya. The east African country is a renowned safari destination and the Maasai Mara, a wildlife conservation and wilderness area, is populated by everything from big cats to elephants.
Typically safari trips have relied on a four-by-four vehicle, but Nat Geo is shining a spotlight on the horseback safari as it’s less disruptive for animal habitats and is a much more immersive way to see wildlife.
Niagara Falls also made National Geographic’s list, and while that’s hardly an obscure travel destination, there is something pretty special about visiting it this year. That’s because it lies in the Path of Totality and will offer stunning views of the total solar eclipse on April 8.
And for any tea lovers out there, now’s the time to visit Sri Lanka. The stunning island nation is a top global tea producer, and you can follow the paths trodden by nineteenth-century workers on the tea trails. There are plenty more destinations where that came from – take a look at the full list below.
